The WES Foundation Announces The 2022 WES Foundation Scholarship Awards Program for eligible high school students in Horry County
For Immediate Release:
April 21, 2022, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The WES (Working Equal Success) Foundation was founded by Everette Sands, a Horry County native and a veteran college football coach. The WES Foundation is excited to announce it’s new 2022 WES Foundation Scholarship Awards Program. Under the Program, The WES Foundation will award one (1) $3,000 scholarship and two (2) $1,500 scholarships to students in the Horry County.
The WES Foundation available Scholarships will include the following and applications may be found online at www.wesfc.com.
WES Foundation Past Camper Scholarship: One (1) $3,000 scholarship is available for any senior that attended the 1st Annual WES Foundation Football Camp in 2017.
WES Foundation Scholarship: One (1) $1,500 scholarship is available for any senior attending high school in Horry County. This scholarship will be based on merit.
The Thomas Jordan Scholarship: One (1) $1,500 scholarship is available for any senior attending high school in Horry County. This scholarship will be based on need and merit and is open to any student attending a 4-year institution or a 2-year institution or some type of trade school program.
Coach Sands said “throughout my career, I’ve heard many young athletes I coached say things like, “I must make it professionally, to help my family have a better life” which compelled me to begin The WES Foundation. Sands wanted to start an organization that helped young people understand that they can be successful without being professional athlete and it starts with education. Sands continued “It may not be the traditional 4-year colleges we often see and hear about, but it starts with education, nonetheless. It may be an education in a trade school or some other specialized learning.”
During the summer of 2017, the plans for THE WES Foundation started to form, and the first event was a FREE football camp in Sands hometown of Conway, SC. Sands was able to gather some of his old players from various places to come in and be the coaches, which is still the bulk of the coaching staff. At this camp, kids get a chance to work on football and cheer fundamentals and at the end the honor roll students are recognized. The 5th Annual WES Foundation Football and Cheerleading is scheduled for Saturday, June 25, 2022.
The WES Foundation has also produced a series of seminars/webinars on financial literacy, mental wellness, social media, and other life skills that will help develop these young student-athletes. And looking to add other sports to the program as well, such as basketball, soccer, baseball, golf, and tennis.
